The MLB Playoffs NLCS and ALCS series are set. Over in the American League, the Seattle Mariners take on the Toronto Blue Jays. Then, in the National League, the Milwaukee Brewers battle the defending champion Los Angeles Dodgers. Which teams get it done and march their way to the 2025 World Series? LA Dodgers vs. Milwaukee Brewers

• 2025 NLDS Series Odds: Dodgers -217 / Brewers +175

The Brewers lack the bats that the Dodgers have, and LAD disposed of what many people (including me!) thought was the best team heading into the MBL Postseason, the Philadelphia Phillies.

Let’s take a deep breath before pouncing on the Dodgers at -205, though. Did you breathe? Okay, now exhale. LAD is not a lock, far from it. In the game versus the Phillies, the Dodgers got lucky after a run walked in to tie it at 1-1. Then came the error that sent the Dodgers into the NLCS.

LAD didn’t earn their place in the final game. On Monday, the Dodgers start the NLCS versus a fired-up, hungry, and possible team of destiny in the Milwaukee Brewers. The Brewers beat a historically more accomplished rival, the Chicago Cubs, in a desperate 5-game series.

Now Milwaukee can breathe a bit easier. They’re a major dog facing the bully on the block and shouldn’t win a game. Based on the odds, they shouldn’t be close. But I still believe the Dodgers’ BP is an issue. The Brewers aren’t beating the rival Cubs, but the team is flying high.

The Brewers are a big-time overlay in this because Shohei Ohtani is in a significant slump. Even if he plays out of it, Milwaukee’s starters and bullpen are more than capable of pitching around Ohtani because they’re so good. For example, Mookie Betts is 1-of-12 versus Freddy Peralta, to handle the other Dodgers players.

LAD should win the series. But at -210 they’re a play against. Back the Brewers to pull off the upset.

ALCS

Toronto Blue Jays vs. Seattle Mariners

• 2025 ALCS Series Odds: Blue Jays -233 / Mariners +150

The spread is tight enough that value exists on both sides. If we go with the Mariners, we’re getting a friendly over-even-money payout. The Jays offer a decent payout considering they have home park advantage.

The Blue Jays are attracting action because they beat the New York Yankees in the Divisional Round. But before jumping into Toronto, there are a few things to note. First, the Jays and Yankees know each other well because they both play in the AL East. So Toronto beat a rival to march to the ALCS.

The Jays decimated NYY’s pitching, scoring 10 runs in one game and 13 in another. Seattle’s pitchers won’t allow the Jays to score nearly as many runs, even if the Mariners head into the first two games at a disadvantage after having to beat the Tigers in 5.

But once the series shifts to Seattle, the Mariners could pose a problem. In fact, Toronto could be at a disadvantage if the Mariners’ first two starters in the series can hang on until the bullpen arrives. The odds haven’t shifted much in favor of the Jays, and the series starts on Sunday. That’s a sign that even pro handicappers are considering putting money on the Mariners.
