The top matchup is a Big 12 showdown between 23 Iowa State and 17 Kansas State in Dublin, Ireland. The Wildcats are -3 point favorites and will try to get a leg up on their Big 12 competition with a College Football Week 0 victory. Kansas State vs. Iowa State

• When: Saturday, August 23rd. 12:00 p.m. ET

K-State is the chalk because they’re the “home team,” but the game happens in Dublin. So it’s tough to back the Wildcats as the home squad. Since, well, they aren’t playing on their field.

Still, there’s a lot to like about K-State. Quarterback Avery Johnson is now a junior and plays behind a solid line that includes three juniors and two seniors. The experience on the line should flatter the dual-threat quarterback’s skills.

Iowa State has enough talent to win the Big 12. In this game, though, the Cyclones are up against it. QB Rocco Becht completed less than 60% of his passes last season and failed to complete more than 36% of his passes versus Kansas State—the Wildcats cover.

Idaho State vs. UNLV

• When: Saturday, August 23rd. 4:00 p.m. ET

Former Michigan QB Alex Orji should have no trouble carving up an Idaho State team that doesn’t appear capable of keeping UNLV from running up the score. The issue with laying the points, though, is that we must depend on a Runnin’ Rebels’ D with eight transfer players.

Head coach Dan Mullen comes over from the SEC. So now Mullen will get his team to play tough, physical ball. The total is 64.5 points, which is low unless you believe the Rebels sit on their hands for most of this game. Mullen may want to run the football, and junior RB Jai’Den Thomas averaged 5.6 yards per carry last season. Under is the way to go.

Fresno State vs. Kansas

• When: Saturday, August 23rd. 6:30 p.m. ET

Fresno State has a consistent program. The Cali Dawgs often win enough games to secure a bowl bid. This year, playing in the postseason might be tough because E.J. Warner, who transferred to Fresno after stints at Rice and Temple, is the starting QB.

Warner wasn’t good at either school. On Saturday, Warner must beat a solid Big 12 squad, one that boasts a good player under center in Jalon Daniels. Kansas’ D should feast on Fresno’s rebuilt offensive line. Lay the points.

Sam Houston vs. Western Kentucky

• When: Saturday, August 23rd. 7:00 p.m. ET

• strong>College Football Week 0 Odds: Sam Houston +295 / Western Kentucky -455

At 10 points, the line is soft. Western Kentucky should roll Sam Houston. The Hilltoppers welcome Maverick McIvor, who dominated at the FCS level for Abilene-Christian.

McIvor threw 30 TDs and almost 4,000 yards with just seven picks last season. Now McIver gets to play in a system where throwing the ball could happen on nearly every play. Western Kentucky covers by at least 4 points.

Stanford vs. Hawaii

• When: Saturday, August 23rd. 7:30 p.m. ET

• strong>College Football Week 0 Odds: Stanford +105 / Hawaii -139

Is this right? Are the once mighty Stanford Cardinal 2.5 point dogs against Hawaii? Yes, we are. Stanford doesn’t have a real head coach. Instead, former Indianapolis Colts HC Frank Reich is the interim coach.

Hawaii’s offensive line should be decent. The Warriors put homegrown talent on both lines. Also, eight players from the offense and eight players from the defense were part of last season’s program. Still, Reich and Andrew Luck, who is also a part of the Stanford program, know football. Take the points on the Cardinals or hit the button on the Stanford ML.
