UFC 319 Main Card Preview

Tim Elliott vs. Kai Asakura

Tim Elliott doesn’t have much of a shot in this. Elliott has won 3-of-4, but he faces the most formidable opponent he’s seen in a long time.

Kai Asakura is seven years younger and boasts a much better record. After dominating Rizin, Asakura lost his first UFC bout. It was against Alexandre Pantoja in a championship bout. So Kai is taking a big step down in class. Don’t be surprised if Asakura ends this via KO or submission.

UFC 319 Pick: Kai Asakura

Jared Cannonier vs. Michael Page

The odds suggest fight fans are in for a treat. Cannonier gives up height and reach, but Jared looked great in his last when knocking out Gregory Rodrigues in the fourth round.

Page won his last via decision. Cannonier could put it together in this. The odds difference is enough to consider a swing on the dog.

UFC 319 Pick: Jared Cannonier

Geoff Neal vs. Carlos Prates

Neal goes into this having lost 2-of-3. The assignment is challenging for Geoff because his submission skills aren’t fantastic. Neal has gone 2-2 via submission.

Prates lost his last via decision. The L came versus Ian Garry. Before falling to Garry, Prates had won four straight via KO/TKO. Expect Prates to end this early.

UFC 319 Pick: Carlos Prates

Lerone Murphy vs. Aaron Pico

It’s not often that a fighter of Lerone Murphy’s skill level is the dog. Murphy has been terrific in recent fights, winning most via decision, which means he’s been tactical.

Pico, the chalk, comes to UFC from Bellator and PFL, where he impressed. But he’s taking on a serious mixed martial artist in his first UFC bout. The odds make Murphy more than playable to win.

UFC 319 Pick: Lerone Murphy

Dricus du Plessis vs. Khamzat Chimaev // UFC Middleweight Title

One of the most anticipated matchups in recent UFC history should be a knockdown, drag-out brawl. Both Du Plessis and Chimaev are fantastic, standing up and forcing submissions.

The difference, though, is that Chimaev might be one of the best mixed martial artists of all time. Khamzat is 14-0 and excels in all aspects. He can win via decision if required, like he did to beat Usman, knock out his opponent, or submit his opponent. The man has no fundamental flaws, which makes him the pick to hand Du Plessis a third loss.

UFC 319 Pick: Khamzat Chimaev
